Will NEW Pixar Mini Show At Disneyland Save This Movie At The Box Office?

Posted by: Lana Porter May 31, 2023

In a promotional effort to highlight Disney and Pixar's new feature film, Elemental, Disney Parks announced a new, limited-time show coming to Disneyland Resort in California. This mini-offering will last two minutes and immediately precede Disneyland's nightly water spectacular, "World of Color — ONE."

Disney's water short is entitled "Elemental Connection" and will start showings on Friday, June 2, 2023, at Disney California Adventure park. In a post about ‘Celebrating the Wonder of Pixar,’ Disney Parks Blog provided the description below:

Brilliant projections dance across vast water screens in this two-minute pre-show, bringing the land, air, water and fire residents of Element City to life. In this heartfelt story, fire element Ember and water element Wade discover that though the world tells them they can't coexist, they are more alike than they realize. As whimsical fountains and powerful music fill Paradise Bay, you’ll see that stepping out of your element may help you uncover who you really are, just like Ember and Wade.

Disneyland's "World of Color – ONE" features a colorful display of water, fire, lights, and music. Disney and Pixar stories are told through a combination of special effects, fountains, and projections on a massive water-screen. At Paradise Bay, water fountains synchronize with Disney songs and projected movie clips, and of course, the show ends with fireworks.

Elemental takes audiences into the daily lives of fundamental elements such as water, fire, air, and earth. Personified fire element, Ember, voiced by Leah Lewis, ventures out of her comfort zone and into Element City with a new companion made of water, Wade (Mamoudou Athie). The duo have adventures and learn about themselves even though "elements don't mix."

Pixar Animation

Current critical response expects Elemental to flop and predicts disappointing box office numbers. Director Peter Sohn found the heart of his film in his Korean upbringing and describes the story as a "cultural clash." It premieres in theaters June 6.

Will the two-minute promotional show help Guests turn out for this new Pixar film? Or will Elemental fizzle instead of spark?
