Crest grocery stores to phase out sackers, paper bags at its stores
A long-time staple of Crest grocery stores will soon be no more.
On Monday, the local grocery chain announced it was ditching paper sacks in favor of cheaper plastic bags due to rising costs of paper sacks.
Crest said recycling bins will be placed at each grocery store entrance to make recycling easy.
Crest will also no longer employ sackers.
Current sackers are "transitioning to new roles" and Crest said they are not being fired. Sackers will either become cashiers or move to other departments.
"We're committed to making your checkout fast and friendly with the same great service you know and love," Crest Foods Management said in a statement posted to social media.
